Why Not Add Monsters?

It’s going to be a Slacker Saturday post, and I may not even pep it up with monster pictures.  Oh, who am I kidding?

I would probably take it as a compliment.

As long as I’m doing a foolish post, why not add monsters ?  Come to think of it, that might make a good title.

I am sitting on my couch , typing into my Tablet, one letter at a time with the stylus,  and as usual getting a kick out of the predictive text function.  I felt pretty okay for most of the day, particularly this morning,  when it was raining.  But then I took a nap on the couch and woke up with a headache .  I’m drinking water,  in case dehydration is a factor.  At least the water tastes good .

“Do you come here often?”

Speaking of hydration… here’s a guy who’s all wet.

I did go adventuring with my friend Kim earlier. It would be a good idea to write about that, but I just can’t do it with a headache .  Sorry.  I didn’t mean to whine.   Then again,  I do always say, go with your strengths.

I thought mentioning candy would be appropriate, since tomorrow is Easter.

I actually clicked on Joan Crawford accidentally when I was scrolling through my Media Library looking for one more monster.  I see I am over 200 words.   I say that’s okay for a Slacker Saturday .

That’s Not Writing on Monstrous Monday

Now I remember why I so often have Monstrous Monday.  I am TIRED on Mondays!  And I want to make my blog post quickly and watch Dateline on OWN.

Nobody does. What am I complaining about?

All day at work today I thought about writing.  At least, throughout the day, off and on, I thought about writing.  I thought about writing my blog post.  I thought about writing the next murder mystery.  I thought about writing my next article for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  I thought about writing a novel.  That last was more of a vague thought; for the others I actually formed words in my head I intended to put on paper.  However, as the writing books so helpfully point out, thinking about writing is not writing.

When it came time for break, the only thing I could manage was a few jottings in the food journal I am keeping this month.  I am writing down everything I eat, any exercise I get, and when I get a headache or feel light-headed.  I hope to do it for a month and look for patterns.  Being me, it is more likely that I will (a) forget to write things (b) lose the journal (c) get tired of the whole thing (d) start adding all kinds of commentary, thus obscuring the information and losing the purpose (e) any or all of the above.  But that is strictly by the way.  The point is: I am not writing enough.  Bad writer!  Get to work!

But… DATELINE!!!

Will I tear myself away from the television?  Will I continue to watch Dateline (full disclosure:  I have been giving it half an eye while I type this post) (as Truman Capote once said, this isn’t writing, it’s typing)?  Will I attempt to write WHILE watching Dateline?  A little uncertainty adds spice to my evening.  In the meantime, I think I need one more picture of a monster if this is to count as a Monstrous Monday.

“Are you going to write, or do I have to get tough?”

A Side Effect of Wuss-out Wednesday

So remember last week when Wuss-out Wednesday was really a thing?  At least I posted ON Wednesday!  It is Thursday early morning (by my watch and calendar if not by the timestamp on my WordPress account), and this is Wednesday’s post.  I’m thinking my mysterious malady is nothing more than very odd migraines, manifesting more as dizziness than pain.  I don’t think there is much I can do about it, though, since the side effects of most medications (which I often experience) is dizziness.  And please don’t tell me I experience side effects because I EXPECT to; I’ve been feeling light-headed and/or falling asleep on pills since before I ever heard of side-effects.

Where was I?  Ah yes, nowhere in particular.  Just hoping to  type in a few words and pretend it is a blog post so I can still call myself a daily blogger.  Is it permissible to resort to monster pictures at 4:30 in the morning?  I think so.

He is probably drinking tea, but I feel this is an appropriate picture.

Caffeine will not solve all my problems, but at least I may stay awake to deal with them.  I am definitely enjoying my coffee this morning.

“One more thing…”

And look at me, over 200 words.  I call that respectable.  Back to coffee and hoping for a better day for myself and for my readers.  And perhaps a better blog post later, but no promises.

Even Used Monsters Can Help

I so need a Monstrous Monday today.  I’m having the damnedest time writing anything, I’m feeling down and out of it, a few pictures of monsters and some silly remarks will hook me up.  Only I can’t find any new (to me) monster pics.  I was just on Facebook, looking at all my monster pages — oh, wait, I think I missed a couple.

No, it’s no use.  I’ll have to resort to my Media Library and hope I don’t repeat anything too recently used, but no promises.

You can’t really see the monster for the words. There’s a metaphor for writing in there somewhere.

The Blob (1958), how appropriate, because that is just about what I feel like today.  Just a blob. Not even a capitalized one.  In fact, here’s how blobby I am today: I’m writing in sentence fragments, an affectation I rarely use.

THIS is the picture I was looking for on Severed Head Sunday!

I guess these two fellows are more ghouls than monsters, but Peter Lorre and Vincent Price — there could be no possible objection.

With the obligatory sexy, frightened female.

I have never seen this movie but I must look for it.  How I miss video stores!  Perhaps I could find the DVD on interlibrary loan. I don’t have one of them there streaming services.

I gotta get me a nightgown like that.

I close with some zombies.  When I am done sitting on my couch like the Blob, I will lumber to bed like a zombie.  An old fashioned zombie. I’ve never seen any of the more recent zombie flick with the fast moving flesh eaters.

I was right; the monsters did make me feel better.  Happy Monday, everyone.

No Monster Monday? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!

It is a monstrously hot Monday.  I don’t think I can write a really good blog post, but sometimes people are amused by my nonsensical posts, so I will see what I can do.  Of course I would like to include some monster pictures, so I thought I ought to look for some new ones and not rely on my Media Library (but I just love mentioning that I have a Media Library).

That did not work out well.  I just went to the various monster pages on my Facebook and found nothing.  Of course there were a lot of nice pictures, but nothing inspired me to share it, which an apropos remark.  Well, we cant have a Monstrous Monday post without monsters, can we?

“Hey, cutie, wanna go for a swim?” “No, thanks, I’m working on my tan.”

I thought Creature of the Black Lagoon would be appropriate, because right now, I would jump into the water where a monster might be.  I looked for a picture I hadn’t used but did not see anything I liked any better than what I already had.

I think this owes something to the original JAWS poster, don’t you?

Here’s another movie where it was not safe to go back in the water (to steal the tag line from JAWS 2).  We just watched Lake Placid yesterday.  Fun flick.

Full disclosure: I have never seen this movie, and I don’t know anything about it.

When I was looking for the Lake Placid picture, I sat this one from Hell Night and thought, “How appropriate.”  To be completely accurate, I always picture Hell with more of a dry heat than the soggy stuff we are currently dealing with.  Still, I imagine many are saying, ‘”It’s hot as hell around here!”  I’ll sign off before I complain any more myself.  Happy Monday everyone.

Words, Work, What to Do?

So I did not make my Non-Sequitur Thursday post on Thursday.  Judge me if you like, I shall not explain, because explanations are tiresome.  I am sitting at my laptop with coffee at 4:30 in the morning (which is actually a normal time for me to be out of bed on a workday), and I’m going to type a few words and hit publish.  Then on to my last day of work before two weeks off, yes.

Here is a Freudian typo:  when I went to put “workday” just now, my fingers first typed “word.”  Since I want to be a writer (technically I am a writer, but I dream of finishing longer things than blog posts and murder mysteries), I find that appropriate.  Next Freudian typo:  I typed “wend” instead of “went.” This implies that I am wending my way through this post. Quite appropriate for a Non-Sequitur Thursday.

“Ah, about that…”

I thought I would throw in a picture of Nosferatu, just because.  On the one hand, I feel that makes this more of a non-sequitur post.  On the other hand, if you actually say you are making a non-sequitur, I think it makes it less of a non-sequitur.  And now I veer into half-baked philosophy, the purview (I love that word, purview) of Lame Post Friday.  And since it is, in fact, actually Friday, now I am veering back into sequitur territory.  What is a blogger to do?

Which is not the same thing as “I saw what you did there.”

When in doubt, throw in another picture.  I loves me some William Castle.

Incidentally, this is what I felt like yesterday, when I missed posting.

I just grabbed the next picture I saw in my Media Library (“Media Library” should be said in snooty tones), because I want to finish this up.  I am over 300 words, which is a little long for a foolish post, especially a late one.  If only I could think of a silly headline, my life would be perfect.  Late Happy Thursday and Early Happy Friday, folks!

Moving Slow on Monstrous Monday

Nobody does! Oh, I suppose YOU do (you know who you are).

I haven’t used this charming gentleman in a while, but he seemed appropriate.  It was a grisly hot day in the Mohawk Valley today.  Really, there were all kinds of warnings on the news about how we should stay hydrated and get our exercising done early in the morning.  I worked too early to run, so I just didn’t bother; judge me if you must.  The sad thing about that is that, quite abruptly, running has gotten fun again.  As I watched the afternoon drag by, I was sorry I was not going to run.  I looked forward to running on Tuesday, when temperatures are supposed to moderate somewhat.

Safety first! Walk, don’t run!

As I was looking through my Media Library for a picture of a monster running (which I don’t think I have anyways), I saw the above, which I believe I have not used recently. It is, of course, from Night of the Living Dead (1968), back in the days when zombies did not run but lumbered threateningly and people for some reason were often unable to get away.  I understand zombies move faster these days.  I have not see a recent zombie movie.  I don’t much like horror movies after the late ’60s.  They got too slashy for me.  There are, of course, exceptions.  Some newer movies are more atmospheric and psychological, and there are a few I like even if they did go through a tanker truck of fake blood.

“Who were you expecting, the Avon Lady?”

Thinking of blood, I close with my favorite blood-sucker, Nosferatu.  I’m calling this a Monstrous Monday post, or did you figure that out already?  Longtime readers may recall that I wilt and become quite useless in the heat.  I am brain dead.  Perhaps I am a zombie.  Today I am the lumbering kind, but tomorrow I hope to run.
