Tag Archives: I Can’t Write a Post Today

No Scatter to my Saturday

Yesterday (Saturday) morning, when I was making Friday’s post, I had a headache.  I thought to myself, “Look what I can do with a headache!”  I was making a note to myself that I can so post under adverse circumstances.  Well, who knew that headache would blow up into a full blown migraine (oh, YOU probably did) (you know who you are).  It was the sort of headache where I could not do anything else but have a headache, if you know what I mean.  It faded to manageable proportions eventually but left me too drained to do much besides lie on the couch and watch Cold Justice, my new favorite show.

The other bad thing about yesterday was that I did not have any Mohawk Valley adventures to blog about, unless you call walking to the local lab to have them take a couple of vials of blood.  It was a 12-hour fasting blood test, and I had not even had any black coffee, which I understand is allowed.  Maybe that was my problem, although I would think the coffee I had while making my blog post would have cured it.

In short, yesterday was a true blogger’s sick day, with yours truly unable to even type a whiny post about how I could not make a post.  And today’s post is really, really lame.  However, technically, this is not today’s post but Saturday’s post.  I still have time to redeem myself with Sunday’s post.  Preview of coming attractions:  I have rehearsal for Morning’s at Seven at Ilion Little Theatre.  I hope to bring my tablet and take a few pictures.  A little illustration always livens up the post.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Words Happen. Or Not.

Tired Tuesday follows Monstrous Monday in many cases.

I typed in that sentence, then I just sat here and stared at it, wondering what else to say.  It’s odd how sometimes I put fingers on keyboard and words happen (ooh, great title, that).  Sometimes not so much.  Guess what kind of day today is.

First drafts and blog posts.

Full disclosure:  most of my blog posts are first drafts.  Most of my everything are first drafts.  The papers I wrote in school, my murder mysteries, a lot of my articles for Mohawk Valley Living magazine, my many unfinished novels.  Oh well, I guess I do some editing, more on some things than others.  My writing is so informal, sometimes a first draft will do.

So this is another post about I Can’t Write a Blog Post Today.  What I am really trying to do is NOT write a post whining about some physical, emotional and personal troubles I have been having.  Oh dear, I should not have mentioned that at all.  And here is where a first draft can be a really good thing.  If this was a first draft, I could cut out that sentence when I edited and re-wrote.  The second or third draft could read entirely differently.  Less whiny, more coherent, in short, a better blog post.

A better blog post is always my aim.  I’ll see what I can do about that tomorrow.  However, experience has shown us all that sometimes Wuss-out Wednesday follows Tired Tuesday.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

The Vagaries of Non-Sequitur Thursday

Well, now I’ve done it.  I sat here stressing over the fact that I CAN’T WRITE A POST TODAY (said in a dramatic voice, with a wrist to my forehead), and my sweet husband, Steven said that he wished I would not put myself through posting every day.  I said, “It’s just because I have rehearsal tonight.  I just have to stop doing PLAYS!”  Oh yeah, like that’s going to happen!

Thus adjured, I put my fingers on the keyboard and started typing.  I can’t stop posting every day, it’s what I do.  But I can’t let my husband feel upset because I am stressed.  So, as of right now, I am not stressed.  About the blog, at least.  I mean, let’s start small.

I just paused to eat a very delicious dinner that Steven fixed.  He really is a most satisfactory husband.

Earlier today I was pondering the vagaries of writing.  I have been having a difficult time lately, but earlier I sat down and wrote a page of dialog with very little problem.  It was part of Rubbed Out at Ruby’s, the interactive murder mystery LiFT Theatre Company is presenting at the Overlook Mansion in Little Falls in — yikes! –just a couple of weeks.  I thought to myself, “I can’t write, I can’t write, I can’t write, I sit down and write.”  For some reason I can’t just skip to the last step.

I just know that some of you are sitting there smirking, “Well, have you TRIED?”  Yes, I have.  In fact, most of the time I want to have at least a couple more rounds of “I can’t write, I can’t write” before “I sit down and write,” but I somehow manage to write.  Like right now.  Then again, perhaps that is not the best example, since this is just another of my foolish posts about I Can’t Write a Post Today.  Then again (I can have as many “again”s as I want; it’s not like “on the other hand,” where most of us only have two hands), today is Non-Sequitur Thursday.  If I can think of a punchy headline, I’m all set.

Hope to see you all on Lame Post Friday.
