Still Supporting Local

These days I am torn between the desire to stay home, stay safe and keep my germs to myself, and the desire to be out and about, get material for blog posts and support local businesses. Lately I have erred on the side of Support Local.  Isn’t that what one would expect of Mohawk Valley Girl?

Today I went to my beloved Herkimer County Historical Society on Main Street in Herkimer.  For one reason, when I was there before, I missed some post cards.  For another, I wanted to grab a couple more masks.  The masks were donated to the society specifically to be sold to raise funds.  And they have some lovely designs.

Post cards and masks; I’m all set!

Next I went to Renewed and Rescued further down Main Street.  They have expanded!  It’s awesome!  I must make a blog post telling more.

And there is plenty of room for even more merchandise!

I had come in specifically to look for clothes, but first I had to walk all around at the new space and stuff.  Finally I stopped browsing and found myself a dress, a pair of shoes, and a present for Steven (I did not go in looking for the last item, but what’s wrong with an impulse buy?).

Some of the clothes were on sale!

I counted my trip as successful, although I can’t help wondering if the blog post is up to par.  No matter.  We’ll just call it a Tired Tuesday and drive on.

These Things Happen on Scattered Sunday

Ya pays yer money, ya takes yer chances.

I just now said this to my husband, Steven, never mind apropos what.  It is one of my favorite expressions, almost a philosophy of life.  It’s right up there with “Shit happens,” and “You’ll have that.”  But I digress.

I had a Saturday Cinema Post, so Sunday Cinema seems ineligible.   I do not feel it is a Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  For one reason, I got wined.  I joined a wine group on Facebook.  I mean to write a whole blog post about it, when I wine a few ladies this week.

What a delightful surprise!

I went for a run this morning,  but it was not as good as Friday’s run.  Friday I ran up the hill to HCCC (that is, Herkimer College, but to locals it will always be “H trip-C”).

I don’t think this really shows the slope.

Later I went to the liquid store (see earlier paragraph about wining people) and to the grocery store.  I wore my mask, which my sweet friend Margaret sent me, and kept my distant as best as I could. It is still stressful, but I realize others have far more stress, so I count my blessings.

Back home I made a tossed salad, which should last us at least a week.  I also made some vegetable cream cheese, grating and chopping actual vegetables,  including chives from my garden (yesterday’s snow apparently did not harm them). I used said cream cheese to make some stuffed celery.   I suppose I could have done a food post on that.  As they say, Oh well.

I see I am over 250 words, so I guess I will call this a Scattered Sunday Post and drive on.  I have not gotten called back to work yet,  so Monday is a blank page.  I hope to fill it well, and of course I hope you will stay tuned.

Not Useful But Perhaps Entertaining

Yes, my days are blurring one into another, as the Quackenbush Quarantine (as my husband Steven dubbed it) continues.  And yet I will indulge in Lame Post Friday.  For one reason, it is difficult to make a post that is not at least somewhat lame these days.  If I was a more talented and imaginative writer, my posts would be better, and here we come to the ugly truth about me.

But never mind that.  Let me just make a blog post and try to be as entertaining as possible while I do it.

Quarantine hair and turkey neck, what’s a blogger to do?

This morning I tried to make a mask from a sock, using a recipe I got from Facebook.  I was not impressed with my results, but of course I took a picture, for the amusement of others.  I may not be a particularly useful sort of person, but at least I am good for a laugh.

At least I am trying to do something to shield my fellow human beings from whatever germs I may have.  I try to stay home as much as possible and to keep my distance when I do go out.  But this is nothing new and entertaining to add to my Lame Friday Post.  What can I add in the categories of random observations and half-baked philosophy?

I guess I got nuthin’. This is nothing unusual.  However, I am over 200 words.  A lame post is best kept short.  Will I come up with something better for Saturday?  Time will tell.  Time is certainly a blabbermouth (a joke I have made before,  but I am rather proud of it).  Happy Friday, all.

Who Is That Masked Blogger?

The CDC has recommended that we wear face masks in public, and I notice that a number of people are taking that advice.  For most of us, not medically employed or immune compromised, a home made mask is good enough, and preserves the medical grade ones for those that really need them.

I had to go to a doctor’s appointment today and decided it would be a good idea to wear a mask.  Naturally I went to Facebook for advice.  One video said you can use a bra to make a mask.

Nailed it!

I thought the result was so attractive (pronounced “ah-trah-ctive”), I posted a picture on Facebook.  A friend commented that I could also make a mask from men’s underwear.  My husband Steven was happy to loan me a pair (YES they were clean!).

I would rather use the pair with the red hearts.

OK, I was just being silly.  When I was done with nonsense (for the moment), I followed the directions from a video I found on the Covid-19 Information Center, using an old t-shirt.

I had to finagle my earrings out from under it.

On the advice of another friend,  I pulled it further up my nose and put my glasses on top of it to keep them from fogging.  A nurse at the doctor’s office complimented me on my homemade mask, so that made me happy.

After returning home, I put my mask in the laundry, as advised by the CDC.  I shall fashion another one if I have to go out tomorrow.  Luckily I have a number of old t-shirts.

Stay safe, everyone!
