Be of Good Beer

Note to self: Do not go to the bowling alley for a beer with the guys after work.  Oh, it was fun, and the bowling alley has a very pleasant bar, but one beer easily turns into three when generous co-workers start buying rounds. It actually could have been four or five, but we passed our last upside down shot glasses over to guys with harder heads.  For feeling like a fatty so much of the time, I am kind of a lightweight when it comes to beer.

So here I am Saturday morning making my Lame Post Friday post.  We’ll, what could be more lame than my excuse for not making a post yesterday?  After all, I have been known to drink and type before.  Unfortunately, I have also been known to drink and fall asleep on the couch, which is what I did last night.

I must make a further note to myself to make my Saturday post sometime in the afternoon.  We have plans with our friends Jim, Phyllis, and Kim.  I can pretty much guarantee the wine will flow.

I guess I am showing myself as quite the lush.  It could be true, but I do not always over-indulge.  But when one is hanging out with friends and having a lot of laughs…  In other words, no promises.

Late on Friday, Ambitious for Saturday

So Thursday I managed a foolish post while tired, but I could not accomplish such a feat on Friday.  I know I proclaimed Wednesday Lame Post Friday,  but I think I will have to dub it Wuss-out Wednesday and have another Lame Post Friday today.  Uh, yesterday.

Today, in fact, is Shop Small Saturday,  a holiday tailor made for Mohawk Valley Girl!  I have actually been saying lately, ” EVERY Saturday is Shop Small Saturday for me!  I hardly ever shop big!”  That said, I plan to make a few local stops today, perhaps even venturing out of Herkimer into Frankfort, Ilion, Mohawk, and Little Falls.  Hmm. That may entail quite a number of stops. We’ll see.

However, there are other things I need to accomplish. I must get some writing done other than a late, lame blog post. It would be a good idea to run. And there is always my house that needs a lot of cleaning…

I think more coffee is first on the agenda.  We’ll make this post a little shorter than my usual, and I’ll try to make up for it later.

Don’t Walk, Run! At Least Don’t Whine!

My health woes continue, and I am just going to have to keep annoying people about them.  I actually felt a little better today.  True,  I kept saying to myself, “Holy crap, I feel like shit,” sometimes mixing it up a little and saying, “Holy shit, I feel like crap.”  But I did not feel desperately ill all the time.

I hoped I would be able to manage at least a short run.  Yesterday  I did not try to run but after writing some post cards tried to walk with them to the post office.  I got about two houses away when my body said, “Oh please, no.”  I cravenly turned around (no autocorrect,  I do not mean “gravely” when I typed “cravenly”).

I can see I am still not back up to blogging ability.  I just spent two paragraphs whining about being ill (ill, not I’ll, dammit!), and I haven’t even gotten to my run yet.  Maybe I should throw in a picture,  so this post has a shot at some entertainment value.

“Oh woe! Oh anguish!”

This is how I often pose with a headache, but I fear I am nowhere near this skinny.  Maybe if I went on a few more runs.

This was Halloween.

I was looking through the photos on my Tablet for something else for this post when I accidentally hit this one. I like it, though, so it can stay.

OK, today is the second day of a three day week for me.  That means it is Tuesday (the day it actually is), Wednesday (the middle day of the week), AND Thursday (because tomorrow is “Friday”).  That means I can call this a Non-Sequitur Thursday post.  Yes!

I Made It To 200 Words!

I guess it’s Monstrous Monday after all.  Never mind why; explanations are tiresome. I just needs me some Nosferatu.

“You were looking for me?”

Well, that took a little scrolling through my Media Library.  I may not make my usual goal of 200 words, but I will share a few more monsters.  Who doesn’t love monsters?  Oh I know some people don’t,  but why would they read my blog?

Joan would like to axe you a question.

Here is a monster of the human variety, Joan Crawford in Straitjacket.  A William Castle movie about axe murders, what’s not to like?

I love the coloring.

Here are a few scenes from House on Haunted Hill,  another wonderful Castle flick. I just don’t imagine the skeleton is any relation to our Bonita, who graced yesterday’s post,  although I do see the resemblance.

“I know you were looking for me.”

Regular readers might have expected to see The Brain from Planet Arous, which I often show when I seem to be posting without getting much use out of my own.

OK, I tried not to say it, but I will:  I am STILL not feeling well.  I must learn how to write when I am ill.  And I will.  Starting tomorrow.

My Bad

I guess not posting on Saturday is a thing now. Of course I had better intentions, I always do! In fact, I typed in the following early yesterday evening:

I thought I could make a Scattered Saturday post before leaving for dinner with friends.  I had meant to make a Saturday Running Commentary post, having had a pretty good run this morning.  My in-head narration was pretty good, if I recall.

I’m sitting on my couch, typing one letter at a time with the stylus on my Tablet, wearing a black sheath dress with pantyhose, with a fan on me, because of course I am having a hot flash. I hope that gives you the picture, because I am not taking a selfie.

Just as an aside, I am not one to have a Little Black Dress I wear for any and all occasions.  I prefer color. However, my wardrobe is in bad shape these days.  I picked up this dress at a rummage sale, untried-on, because it was fill three bags for a dollar day. What could I lose?

I am pairing my black dress with a many-colored blazer.  For accessories I have gold beads, a gold topaz bracelet, and three different elegant earrings.

And that was when Steven said we had better get going, so I saved it and got going.  What a lovely time we had!  I should write a blog post about it.  But first, I shall publish this draft, as my Sorry About Saturday post.  Hey, that sounds like a new category for Mohawk Valley Girl!

Is a Lame Post a True Crime?

Hello and welcome to Lame Post Friday.  As I logged into WordPress, the words, “Stay tuned for Lame Post Friday” were in my head.  I was actually thinking of waiting till tomorrow and making two posts, as I have done a regrettable number of times. But, no, I am awake and post I must (as I proofread this, I felt an impulse to put, “I am awake and a post I must make,” but I never like doing Yoda talk just to make a rhyme.  Did I do right?  Discuss amongst yourselves) .  Unfortunately,  once again, I got nuthin’.

My sinus infection seems to have morphed into a bad, bad cold.  Why does a cold sometimes feel like the most debilitating illness possible?  I’m guessing that it usually does not, but some of us are bigger babies than others (yes, I mean ME).

So I spent most of the day lounging around or trying to nap, and feeling grateful that I was not at work, where lounging and napping are frowned upon,  to say the least.  Later on I felt well enough to go to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor and to dinner at Salvatore’s in Herkimer.

Now I am at home and half watching a Dateline: Secrets Uncovered which I believe I have seen before.  I know I have seen a Snapped and read a book about the case involved.  I do love true crime.

So here is my extremely lame blog post.  As always, I will try to do better tomorrow.

Feeling Monstrous Once Again

Another day, another symptom!  But I must not spend my time whining and feeling sorry for myself.  How ridiculous am I, anyways?  Other people have way worse physical ills than I do.  Oh well, they can look at me and feel quite superior.  Today it was my nose running like a keg at a frat party (and I know some folks prefer we say “fraternity;” get over it!).  Fellow sinus sufferers have felt my pain.

Never mind that, I have a blog post to make.  I am going to follow my own maxim of “When in doubt, add monsters.”

Everybody’s favorite monster man!

My stylus accidentally highlighted this photo as I scrolled through my Media Library.  While Vincent Price is not exactly a monster, I believe his monstrous credentials are unquestionable.

Dr. Praetorious and his experiments.

This picture raises the question which is the real monster?  The creatures grown out of I never heard what, or the creepy guy who grew them?  In any case, it makes me want to watch Bride of Frankenstein again.

Isn’t that a charming smile?

I close with a happy face.  I don’t know which movie this is from.  I believe the original Wolf Man was more tormented.  That is another I need to watch again soon.  Claude Rains and Lon Chaney Jr., even if it is kind of sad, what’s not to like?

So I’m going to call this a Non-Sequitur Thursday post.  But can I think of a good headline?  How monstrous if I cannot!

Who Wants to Read a Blog about How Sick I Am?

At the risk of trying my readers’ patience, I took another blogger’s sick day yesterday.  In my defense, I can’t so easily take a day or partial day off work so stuck it out for the full eight hours.  Something had to give.  It was the blog.  And the episodes of Dateline on OWN I went to bed rather than watch (and I LOVE Dateline!).  So now I am up at 4 a.m. (OK, I am usually up by 4, 4:30 at the latest), typing away.

And feeling rather ill-used about the sore throat (new symptom) and continued headache.  I would not be surprised if I picked up some virus in addition to my sinus infection and will feel terrible for the foreseeable future.  Or maybe it was a virus to begin with and I am building up my system’s tolerance for antibiotics to no purpose.

While at work, I alternated between thinking I would go home and straight to bed, and telling myself, “No! Don’t give in to it!  Go running!  Write your post cards and walk to the post office!”  Oh, how terrible do I feel about not writing my weekly post cards yet?  Quite terrible.  Anyways, it will come as no surprise that I did, in fact, give in to it.

I don’t now how much longer this illness will last, but it is making my blog damn boring, as well as making it difficult for me to accomplish any other writing.  Hands up, everybody who, when you are sick, want nothing better than to lounge around on bed or couch and wish you didn’t feel so rotten.  Oh, I suppose you probably don’t (you know who you are).

However, I see I am over 250 words.  Time to get ready to face the day.  My goal for today is not to spend any time resting my head in my hands and not to complain to any of my co-workers.  It’s good to set goals.

Let’s Start Christmas Shopping!

Well, I was all set to do my usual Friday Lame Post, but instead I think I will write a little more about Kayla Marie Creations.  I started to talk about the shop yesterday, but my sinus infection flared in a manner most uncomfortable.  Today I am still feeling whiningly bad, but yet want to communicate something other than said whines.

On Route 5S, a wonderful place to shop.

I just finished and emailed my article to Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  I strongly urge all local readers to pick up the December issue when it hits the stands. In the meantime, I highly recommend Kayla Marie Creations for Christmas shopping and for your own personal decor.

A few of the non Christmas items available.

I was mostly taken with the Christmas decorations, but as I say in my article, Kayla Marie offers year round beauty.

And a few of the Christmas things.

I don’t want to share all the pictures I took,  because I also submitted them to the magazine. The beauty part is, she always has new stuff, so when I go back there (I have more Christmas shopping to do, as well as picking up a few items for myself), I can take more pictures!

All of these earrings are delightfully lightweight.

Before I close, here is one more picture, just to remind my husband of these lovely earrings.  After all, I have a birthday coming up.

Kayla Marie Creations is located at 262 Rt 5S, Mohawk, NY, phone number 315-360-0058. For more pictures, check out the Facebook page!

At Least the Wrapini Was Good

I was determined to not be sick today.  Or at least to act as if I was not sick.  Or at least to get things done despite being sick.  Dammit, shouldn’t those antibiotics have kicked in by now?  But it was not such a horrible day.

After making it through my work day, I came home and took a fast shower.  Then we headed to Kayla Marie’s Creations on Route 5S in Mohawk.   I want to write about it for Mohawk Valley Living  magazine.  My husband Steven graciously accompanied me.

It’s a great store!

I took a lot of pictures.  Oh dear.  My determination to not let my sinus infection stop me is fading.

Here’s the deal: I can only do so much.  I did eight hours of work, with as much productivity as I could manage.  I went to a Mohawk Valley business and got material for a magazine article.  I went to Salvatore’s in Herkimer for some dinner with my husband.  I tried to make a decent blog post.

So apparently I did not meet with success on the last item.  Maybe I can think up a catchy title and we’ll call this a Non-Sequitur Thursday post.  Then I’ll take my next dose of antibiotic and hope for a better tomorrow.
