Martin Landau, Can You Help Me Now?

Another day, another late post. These things happen, at least to me. No matter. I will attempt to write something worth reading, then attempt it again later today so I will be caught up.

Unfortunately I did not take any pictures at the Mind Twist Media Arts and Entertainment Expo yesterday. My friend, Kim and I dressed up and promoted Ilion Little Theatre. There were other vendors there, some musical entertainment, and a magician. Unfortunately, it was not very well attended. However, those who were there enjoyed it. The representative of Mind Twist I talked to said they would probably try for a date in May next year.

After the expo, Kim and I were quite relieved to get out of our costumes and into comfy shorts. We went to Lombardo’s Pizzeria Plus in Ilion, NY, for some food and wine. We split an order of chicken wings and an appetizer sampler. I really should avoid deep-fried food, but as I often observe, I can’t always do the right thing.

Back home, I relaxed with my husband, Steven. We watched Ed Wood. I had been thinking about that movie since I mentioned Martin Landau in my Friday/Saturday post (perhaps you read it).

So this is my Scattered Saturday Post, a day late. I say to myself, “Now that wasn’t so hard, was it? Why didn’t you do it yesterday?” And then, with thanks to S.J. Perelman, I explain, “Shut up.”

Is My Mission to Dress as a Drag Queen?

My mission, if I choose to accept it, is to make a Lame Post Friday post on Friday. This tape will self-destruct… That was my little homage to Mission: Impossible, the TV series with Martin Landau, not the movies, which I have the opposite of desire to see.

And that was as far as I got last night. I bet Martin Landau never chose not to accept his mission. I guess that is where he and I differ.

In any case, here I sit on my couch, etc., etc., and I ain’t got much. Later today, my friend, Kim, and I will participate in the Mind Twist Media Arts and Entertainment Expo in Utica, NY. We will be representing Ilion Little Theatre. I spent part of last night figuring out a costume then un-painting and re-painting my toenails so they will match. I plan to wear my drag queen outfit from Fabulous and Fatal, that murder mystery we presented to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society a few years ago.

I don’t know much about Mind Twist Media or the expo, but I copied the following from the Facebook Event: Artists and entertainers from all over Central New York meet to showcase their art. There will be tattoo artists, tarot readers, cosplayers, authors, film makers, musicians, food trucks, vendors, live glass blowing and chainsaw art demonstrations. Cosplay contest at 4:00, Adults and children’s categories.

The event will take place at 220 Memorial Parkway, Utica, NY, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5, but FREE if you come in costume!

So my blog post veered from lame to plugging a local event. I find that appropriate for a post that started on Friday and ended on Saturday.

I Was Gonna Make Espresso!

Alas, it seems I can’t get through the week without missing at least one blog post. Yesterday I just couldn’t do it. I am not sure I can do it today, either, as I sit on my couch sipping chamomile tea and wondering if I shouldn’t call in to work. I am suffering stomach problems but do not wish to burden you or gross you out with details.

The sad thing, to me at least, is that I managed a half hour walk when I first got up. I used the Map My Run app on my phone (it isn’t just for running, it turns out) (and I still feel a little weird using a 21st century word like “app”) and shared the results on Facebook. Won’t that be a little assymetrical, going for an ambitious (for me) walk then missing work? Come on, chamomile tea! Be a miracle cure!

In the meantime, I am afraid this will have to do for my Thursday post, or rather my excuse for not making a Thursday post. Hey, it’s kind of a lame excuse, and here we are on Lame Post Friday! It! Could! Work!

Side Note: “It! Could! Work!” is from the glorious Mel Brooks movie, Young Frankenstein. If you have not seen it, do.

P.S. It Is also a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.

Oh, Who Needs a Brain, Anyways?

So here I am, trying to make a Pre-Rehearsal Post. I am feeling somewhat better today, at least well enough to make it to rehearsal. I am happy I have a ride; my friend Kim is picking me up. But do I have brain enough for a blog post? Do I ever? At least I usually do not let the lack stop me.

Did something eat my brain?

I throw in an illustration to pep things up. I wish I could find my picture from The Brain from Planet Arous, but you know my struggled with my Media Library. Anyways, I did not intend to make a Mid-week Monsters Post.

Now that I think about it, I do not know what sort of post I intended to make. I have had a dearth of Mohawk Valley Adventures for some time now. However, unlike my apparent lack of brain, this is a lack I can correct. Not in time for this post, and perhaps not in time for tomorrow’s. However, I will try to do something soon.

So this is my blog post for tonight: yet another post about how it is not a very good post. I wonder how many of those I can get away with. I hope at least one more.

No Rehearsal Post

I am taking a Blogger’s Sick Day. I should be at rehearsal as I type this (on the Tablet, one letter at a time with the stylus) (why do I always feel the need to say that?). I never miss rehearsal! I guess I should say almost never. Oh dear.

Why is my Tablet underlining the second “rehearsal” in the previous paragraph? Another mystery to ponder. However, I will ponder it later. Now I am going to lie down. No doubt I will feel better tomorrow.

Two Skeletons and a Glass of Wine

Monday through Friday workers know: sometimes the best you can hope for on a Monday is to Just Get Through It. Workers of other schedules know that feeling applies on other days as well. Oh, I know, I have very little to complain about. Why should I let that stop me? It seems to not slow others down. Never mind, let’s just get on with the blog post.

A handsome couple indeed.

This is our skeleton Bonita with her friend Bonaparte. She is wearing her last summer’s outfit. We have yet to dress her in this summer’s togs (Preview of Coming Attractions), but I am sure she will look equally alluring. At least Bonaparte will look equally as admiring.

He would probably like to meet Bonita.

I took a picture of this handsome fellow last Fourth of July, when my friend Kim and I visited our good friends Phyllis and Jim. Phyllis passed away the following August, and I still feel the shock of grief when I remember she is gone.

Full Disclosure: I already drank the wine.

Having interjected that sad note into my post, I feel free to point out that sometimes, for some of us, a glass of wine is a beautiful thing. I certainly enjoyed many glasses with Phyllis.

So I guess this is my Monstrous Monday Post: a couple of skeletons and a sad note. But I also smile when I remember my friend Phyllis. That makes this a not bad Monday. Once again, I thank you for tuning in.

So I Slacked

I try to make a very quick post as I watch the charge on my Tablet go ever lower. It probably will not be be a very good post, although I am not the best judge of these things. I mostly want to make an apology for not posting on Saturday (since I counted the post I made yesterday morning for Friday). We’ll call it a Slacker Saturday Post.

I only wrote post cards to my weekly regulars, nobody extra, and I wrote them later than I usually do. As a matter of fact, shortly after I made the blog post, I went back to bed and took a morning nap. I enjoyed it.

When I took my walk, it started to rain. Just a little mist, really, so I kept going. For one reason, I had to mail my post cards. My Garmin (actually a friend’s Garmin which he nicely loaned me) told me I walked a faster mile than previously, 20:53 yesterday, 23:39 last Sunday. I have to be careful about walking fast, because I easily give myself shin splints. I try to concentrate on walking heel to toe. That is what an army friend told me she did.

And that was the extent of my usefulness yesterday. Today I am getting a jump on being at least marginally more useful by putting in laundry in before getting on the Tablet. I mention it here to remind myself to put the clothes in the drier soon.

Now I see I am over 250 words. Score! Regarding the depression I mentioned yesterday, I have found that sometimes completing a blog post is also an anti-depressant.

In Fact, Most Advice Is Lame

Late Lame Post Friday posts are just going to be a thing. I offer no excuse. For one reason, all the writing advice givers say there is no excuse. Write Just Write, they say. I believe it is good advice, but like all advice, caveats apply. However, since for “caveats” some people read “excuses,” I will offer none of those either.

What will I offer? My favorite Lame Post Friday elements: random observations and half-baked philosophy! Perhaps I should go sit on my front porch so I can actually observe something other than my messy living room or the local news.

Is this an azalea?

Full Disclosure: I did not observe this bush just now. I am still sitting on my couch. I don’t have shoes on, and my husband, Steve, tells me it is chilly outside. This is a picture I took of a neighbor’s lawn sometime last month. I had deleted some pictures from my Media Library in hopes of freeing enough space for an illustrated Pedestrian Post, but WordPress only allowed me to download one new picture. It was rather a sore spot for me.

Another Full Disclosure: my depression is really kicking my butt these days. I always cringe a little when I admit that. I worry that I should just suck it up and not bother others with my problems which are in fact much fewer and smaller that those suffered by others. Then again, depression is a problem for many. If anybody told me they were suffering from depression, I would not, in fact, advise them to suck it up.

Now that I think about it, I am not sure I would offer any advice at all. For one reason, any advice I might give would come with caveats, and that just seems like a lot of trouble. I will give myself a little advice, however. I advise myself to take a walk. Exercise is a potent anti-depressant. It might also make a good blog post.

Theatre Is My Life!

I believe I have time for a quick Throwback Thursday post before I have to leave for rehearsal. My problem is, since I am about to go to rehearsal, I feel distinctly inclined to throw back to past LiFT (Little Falls Theatre Company) productions. I also feel it is too early for this blog to become All Love’s Labour’s Lost All The Time. I’m just so excited to be doing a Shakespeare play again!

Full disclosure: I may not have time to do a blog post. I keep getting distracted by the Mom re-run on TV. I’m so shallow!

No, it’s not the balcony scene from Hamlet!

At least this is not a picture I shared on the last Throwback Thursday Post. It is a rehearsal shot from The Tempest in 2017.

Another Full Disclosure: My laptop (dining-room-tabletop) is acting up. This post may be short. I am quite certain a short post is better than no post at all. For one reason, my reader has less time to get bored.

And this is a whole different show!

The above is from a Cheese Play by Angela Harris. Regular readers know how I love all things cheesy. Ahem, these plays are not cheesy in the same sense as the cheesy horror movies I so adore.

And here’s something weird. I am over 200 words. Good thing, because this computer is driving me batty! Thank you for tuning in, and I hope to see you all on Lame Post Friday.
