Great Run on a Gloomy Day

Here is the Running Commentary post I should have made yesterday!   I knew I had to run; I had not run for two days, and the Reindeer Run 5K is a week and a half away.  Additionally, I LIKE to run!  And I like best to run when I am in good shape to do so.  That means running on a regular basis even when I do not feel particularly inclined to do so.

As I left work, however, I did feel inclined to run.  For one reason, it was a grey, gloomy day, whereas yesterday had been bright and sunny.  I love a grey gloomy day.  Steven says I am part Addams (Morticia, not Ansel, of course).  It was not overly cold, either.  The roads and sidewalks were just as much of a mess, but one must deal with these things.

I wore my road-guard vest (that’s a reflective vest, for you civilians), because I knew I would be running in the road where the sidewalks were not plowed, blown or shoveled.  I made sure I was on the left side, facing traffic.  I like to give myself every advantage.  As I started, I remembered the good thing about running on snowy roads and sidewalks:  it takes more effort.  That mean it burns more calories!  Of course I mostly run for entertainment and general health reasons, but a little help towards my weight-loss goals is always welcome.

The run was great.  I was able to spend most of my time on the sidewalk, but I kept mostly to the lesser traveled streets just in case.  I had told myself that 20 minutes would be an acceptable run, then caught a second wind and decided to go for 25.  Then I got confused and ended up running for 26 minutes.

Hmm… this is not the most entertaining blog post I could have written. On the other hand, it isn’t overly long.  I think I’ll chalk it up to Wuss-out Wednesday and drive on.  I hope you are all have a swell mid week!

Sick Day With Very Little Brain

It’s only a sinus infection!

I have been glumphing along, acting like I have some hideous, mysterious, deadly disease — perhaps a new shot-resistant flu strain — I was inches away from hospitilization and a lingering, painful death.  Oh well, I knew it was nothing that serious, but that did not stop me from feeling and sharing complete misery.

Oh go ahead and play that miniature violin, and list all the people who have worse ills than me and no doubt complain much less.  I know I am being ridiculous; many people are ridiculous when they get a little sickypoo.  For one excuse, I don’t have a whole lot else to blog about, and very little brain to blog about what I do have.

What my head feels like.

I went to the doctor today and am currently waiting for the Medicine Shoppe in Ilion to deliver my prescription.  How awesome is that?  Home delivery!  Many people have to get their drugs in dark alleys or on street corners.

Hey, buddy, could you lend me a little of that brain?

I have been looking for this picture for days!  I always like to use it when I am feeling particularly brain dead (cue unkind remarks about my usual lack of brain).  It is The Brain from Planet Arous. The other picture is from The Brain That Wouldn’t Die.  As a sad side note, I saw on Facebook that the lady that played said Brain just died.

So it’s another Blogger’s Sick Day,  and a Wuss-out Wednesday as well.  I have great hopes for the prescription I await.

Wuss-out Whining

Sorry, friends, it’s Wuss-out Wednesday.  I must be getting old or something, because overtime is really kicking my butt.  I managed to go for a short run this afternoon, and it was not fun.  I couldn’t even manage a full cool-down walk.

Oh dear, that was a whiny paragraph,  wasn’t it?  I’m not having a horrible evening; I just don’t feel capable of making a good blog post.  It’s too bad, too, because I was going to share pictures of the RCIL Character Brunch last Saturday.  Well, perhaps I can do that tomorrow or the next day.

In the meantime,  I want to make some semblance of a post now, because I do NOT want to try to post tomorrow morning.  It is hard enough to get to work by 4:30 a.m.  Aaaaand there I go whining again!

Tomorrow is Halloween.  We have that going for us.  Full Disclosure: I intend to continue watching Halloween movies as long as I can get away with it. I am hoping the weather will not be as heinous as the meteorologists are predicting.  Rain and wind.  Yikes!

As my friend Bruce says, don’t whine; WINE!  I’ll have a sip or two before bed, I think.  Not too much, though, or I will really be whining tomorrow!

Ladies and Lionel on Wuss-out Wednesday

Mid-Week Monsters it is!  I am even more tired then I was on Tired Tuesday!  I’m thinking this is actually going to be Wuss-out Wednesday With Monsters.  These things happen when one tries to be a daily blogger.  At least when one is me.

I could rock that hair do.

Looking at Elsa Lanchester as The Bride of Frankenstein, I begin to question my plan to get a hair cut.  If I kept growing my hair, I bet I could be the Bride for Halloween 2020.  Since Oct. 20 of that year will be my 30th wedding anniversary,  I think that would be a good costume for me.

Great cheesy movie.

Just to continue the female monster theme, here is Wasp Woman.  I wrote a blog post about that one.  I would link back to it, but I cannot recall the title and am too lazy to search for it.

I loves me some Lionel Barrymore.

This is Lionel Barrymore in Devil Doll.  He is in disguise as a woman.  I don’t remember who the miniature woman is.  It is a pretty good flick, not surprisingly,  with the great Lionel Barrymore.

Ooh! Scary!

To conclude with a monstrous female, here is the witchy Mrs, Newliss in Horror Hotel.   I know, I ought to look up the actress’ name.  Oh, what do you want from me on Wuss-out Wednesday?

Frankentree, Vampires and No Promises

OK, here I am, trying to get my writing mojo back.

And so far it is not going well.

I have found a good thing to do in these situations is to pep up the post with a couple of pictures. It would be nice if I had some new ones.  I wonder if there is anything handy I can shoot and post.  I am sitting on my front porch.  Not much to see here except the neighbors’ houses and Frankentree.

I have shared pictures of Frankentree before.  My current view of him does not really convey his full glory.  I shall share his most recent photo.

I think he’s cool.

We just moved in from the porch, so Steven can make my lunch (he’s a nice husband that way). I am certainly not going to take an pictures of my messy living room.  But I can share one I took previously.

Another cool inhabitant of my world.

Steven gave me this vampire for Christmas some years ago, and he has hung in our living room ever since.

Not my current view.

This is a picture from a previous year of Halloween decorating.  I include it in hopes of inspiring myself to clean up this house for the purpose of decorating now.  Perhaps I should finish this up and do a little work now.

No promises, of course.

Wuss-out Wednesday With Witches

I can’t wait to put her out again this year!

I was afraid I would have another Blogger’s Sick Day.  Then I thought I could manage a Mid-Week Monsters post.  Unfortunately I made a Monstrous Monday post.  Dare I have too many monsters?  So I thought a Wuss-out Wednesday post would be OK.  Still, pictures always dress up a post.  That was when I thought of Wednesday Witches.  How could I resist?

Today’s first witch is one of our own porch decorations.  We found her at Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit,  NY.  I will be glad to go there again this year!

Witches love to make shadow puppets.

One problem is that I do not seem to have many pictures of witches in my Media Library.  I must step up my picture game.  Still, who doesn’t love Margaret Hamilton?  Many consider her Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz to be the quintessential hag.

A few members of a scary coven.

This is from Horror Hotel, one of my favorite Halloween movies.  These are truly evil witches, not fun, friendly brew mama’s like the one in the first picture.

I cast a spell on you!

I suppose some of you were making jokes about me being a witch (perhaps spelled with a b) since reading the headline (you know who you are).  Well, this is me at the Ilion Days DooDah Parade in 2018.  It is actually my wizard outfit, but I substituted the witch’s hat, because it was a sunny day and I wanted the brim.

I think Wednesday Witches may become a semi-regular thing.  Any thoughts?

Pedestrian Post for Wuss-out Wednesday

Have I used that title before?  I don’t care if I did.  Without going into tiresome details, I am in a mood to wuss out.   Come to think about it, I have pretty much been wussing out since June.  Judge me if you would like to.  It is immaterial to me.

Anyways, my husband Steven and I took a short walk earlier.  I took my trusty Tablet in hopes of getting enough pictures for a blog post.  First I tried to get a shot of the Lutheran Church on the corner of German and Henry.  The bright sunlight hindered me.

I run by this church almost every day.

Hmm.  Not well centered but at least it’s not backlit.  I did not have any more photo-ops on the walk so tried to pad things out with some shots of the lawn.  If only I had done more yard work (refer to earlier remark about wussing out all summer) (and no, computer, I do NOT mean “sussing”!).

The best bloom so far.

Our Black-Eyed Susans have had a lot of greenery but few blooms so far.  I am seeing a lot of buds, though, so things may improve.  That patch also has chives, some of which I put in a macaroni salad earlier (ooh, I could have done a cooking post!), and an unidentified plant which I just noticed today.

If they bloom I’ll take another picture.

Next I got a shot of our Rose of Sharon, also not blooming.

At least it’s too big to get mowed accidentally.

We planted another plant when we did the Rose of Sharon, but I do not know what it is called.

It turns red in the fall.

Then I noticed some purple flowers I had not seen before, amongst the sadly overgrown stuff near the fence.

Can you see the fence starting to fall? I’ve been meaning to fix that.

Also never planted by us are some Brown-Eyed Susans.  They first showed up a few years ago and there seem to be a lot of them now.

Also not blooming yet.

Now I see that title really does not fit the post.  And yet I cannot think of anything better.  Oh well, sometimes I have elements of Non-Sequitur Thursday on Wuss-out Wednesday.   It happens.  I prefer to look on the bright side: I’m closing in on 400 words, after not feeling able to frame a sentence earlier.  Can better blog posts be far behind?   I hope you’ll stay tuned to see.
