Hush… Hush, Sweet Sunday

Who wouldn’t love Bette Davis in a graveyard?

I pause during our viewing of Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte to make a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post. It has actually been an enjoyable Sunday, but I don’t know that I did anything particularly blog-worthy today.

A bit of snow fell last night, so I spent some time shoveling the driveway in lieu of running.  Full disclosure: I shoveled for less time than I would have run.  I hoped the hefting of weighty snow made up for it.

After shoveling I went to the grocery store, a chore I had meant to put off till another day.  Now I have stuff for my lunch for the week. And I had onions to put in with a pork butt roast I meant to cook.

I do not cook many roasts, and I usually do them in the crock pot, which is fairly fool-proof (or should I say Cindy-proof?). I opted for the oven this time.  I consulted Joy of Cooking, the internet, and my mother (via phone).  Then I kind of winged it.  I love cooking;  it is such an inexact science, things usually turn out tasty.

A stellar cast, but where’s Cecil Kellaway?

I just thought I’d throw in another picture from the movie for good measure.  We have not watched sufficient movies for a Cinema Sunday post.  I’ll have to work on that for next week.

“I could spit in your eye!”

Well, what’s wrong with a Bette Davis Sunday?  If only I had a martini, very dry, my life would be perfect.  Happy Sunday, everyone!

But I’m Missing Svengoolie!

I pause in my meager activities for a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  Of course I rarely get much useful done on a Sunday, but some weeks I feel worse about it than others.  Today I am mostly concerned that I not be making my Sunday post at 4 a.m. Monday.  It looks as if I will at least meet that goal.  As long as I am not too fussy about what sort of post I make.

I went for a pretty good run this morning.  After that, I did not feel like doing much, but after a shower, breakfast, and lounging on the couch and reading a book, I managed to accompany Steven to the grocery store.  We neglected to bring the list so forgot to purchase garlic powder.  These things happen.

I made a pot of chicken soup, using fresh garlic and two yellow onions.  It was yummy!  I still have to put the leftovers away, so the useful portion of my day is not over yet. My only other useful task of the day was a load of laundry.  Now I have clean pants and handkerchiefs for work, at least for the next couple of days.

Earlier we thought to clear our DVR by watching a previously taped movie.  This is a handy way to feel we are accomplishing something when in fact we are just watching television.  Hey, I will take fake usefulness on a Wrist to Forehead Sunday!  However, the movie was Fearless Vampire Slayers, and we neither paid much attention nor watched the whole thing. However, we did delete it so cleared our DVR of two hours’ worth of space.

Now we are watching a DVR’d Svengoolie.  The movie is The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, a movie I saw previously without a character host.  I wrote about it in a blog post titled Sorry, Cecil and Rays.

Now I see I am over 300 words.  Let’s get that leftover soup in the fridge and get back to enjoying Svengoolie!

Still Christmas? Time to Move On?

Not bad feet if I do say so.

Here is my view for the evening.  Astute viewers will see that my leggings are Christmasy while my slippers are neutral yet fun.  That is symbolic of my mood right now: reluctant to give up Christmas yet cognizant of the necessity to do so, and ready to have fun.

Right now I am sitting on my couch having a wonderful time with my husband Steven and our friend Kim. I must — or at least I very much want to — make a blog post, but it is difficult to do so while also participating in the conversation.

I guess that could make this a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  I am having a nice time but may be unable to make a blog post. What to do, what to do?

I guess it need not escalate to swooning proportions.

Here are the jingle bells.

I thought I would include for comparisons sake my view on New Year’s Eve.  Same leggings, different slippers.  I was wearing the jingle pair last night and part of today.  Steven is having a hard time letting go of Christmas and I guess so am I.

My main focus right now is to make my blog post today.  I have had far too many days of making a post in the early hours of the next day, and even a couple of shamefully missed posts. It is a new year. A new chance for me to make 266 consecutive posts (leap year, you know).  I love a new year and a new start.

OK, it is five days into the year (my  WordPress timestamp may say six, but I daresay that is not important). More didactic sorts (you know who you are) may say that renders my new start late and therefore ineffective.

I cannot deal with this sort of naysayers.  All I can say is Happy Sunday, and I hope to see you all on Monstrous Monday.

Happy New Year Anyways

Can I treat New Year’s Day like a Wrist to Forehead Sunday?  I had a very nice time last night and took a pretty good run this morning.  OH!  I do have one major bit of news:  I registered to run the Boilermaker 15K in 2020.  They did a special early registration deal starting at midnight.  I was asleep at midnight (don’t judge), but I got online and registered as soon as I got up.

Well, that paragraph took an unexpected turn.  I thought I had logged on merely to pose dramatically and swoon.  You know, Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  Even though it is not Sunday, it feels like one.  New Year’s Day often does.  Not like a holiday, mind you, just a run of the mill Sunday, hence, the Wrist to Forehead aspect.

I will share with you at this point that I fear I may be coming down with a cold.  I keep coughing, and I can kind of feel it down in my chest. Dammit, I can’t deal with that now!  For one reason, I don’t want to go using up my precious paid days off in January!  People say you should not go to work if you are sick with something contagious, but employers are notoriously unsympathetic. Oh well, maybe it is a false alarm.

So I guess this turns out to be Yet Another Post about Not Being Able to Make a Blog Post.  What a way to start the new year!  But I hope you will all stay tuned.  In addition to the Boilermaker,  I have one or two other projects in the offing that I hope to write about soon.

Will My Post-Christmas Letdown Cause Me to Snap?

I continue to work through my post-Christmas letdown with a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  I so much prefer the Christmas weeks I have more time off work, but as I often observe, you can’t have everything.

My favorite!

We have been looking at Snapped for most of the day.  It is a great relief to me to get back into murder and mayhem after all those uplifting Christmas movies Steven has been watching.  Oh, OK, I like Christmas movies and specials, too.  Of course my favorite is How the Grinch Stole Christmas,  narrated by Boris Karloff.  That neatly straddles my love of Christmas and my love of classic horror.

One of my all time favorite pictures.

Perhaps we will watch this one again later this evening.  In the meantime,  I feel I must bring this post to at least 200 words.  Perhaps another illustration would help.

A handsome picture, to be sure.

Here is another mash-up of my two favorite holidays.  I hope to make both last all year.

Bonita will help me in my ambition.

One more picture illustrating my obsessions.  You see my skeleton with Christmas gear in the foreground.   In the background is a Santa Claus who is actually only half there!  Do you find that creepy?  If so, you’re welcome.  Happy Post-Christmas Letdown,  and how many days till Halloween?

Tablet, Don’t Fail Me Now!

I guess it’s time for my Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  I am not actually feeling too angsty, since I do not have to work tomorrow, but do I feel up to making a decent blog post?  That is where the angst comes in.

The thing is, I wanted pictures, but I also want to sit on my comfy couch tapping into my Tablet.  It is not so easy to share the pictures thusly.  So the question now is, do I make the post I was thinking of making only without pictures, or do a totally other post with pictures I can easily get at from here?  Decisions!

Good cheer with beer!

Here is a picture I took at Heelpath Brewing Company at the Frankfort Marina.  I did not get these people’s names, but they were quite willing for me to take their picture. I like to share a nice picture from a local business.

More beer and cheer,

Here is another shot of another visit to Heelpath.  It is a fun place to go.

OK, my Tablet is doing something weird and not letting me share the picture I want to. That brings me right back to Wrist to Forehead Sunday!  And the battery is dying!  Damn!  I guess I’ll just hit Publish and hope for the best, as I have done many times before.  Happy Sunday, everyone!

Fun Sunday after Run on Saturday

So now it is Sunday, and I am having quite an enjoyable day.  I went running this morning, most unusual behavior for me on the day after I ran a 5K.  I ran neither very fast nor very long, but I enjoyed it.

Later this afternoon, my husband, Steven, and I went to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY, for a drink and a snack.  I am hoping to write an article about them for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  We had a fun time and enjoyed our food and Chardonnay.

Now we are sitting at home, bra off (me), sweats on (both of us ), watching It’s a Wonderful Life  (Steven’s idea) and having another glass of Chardonnay.  And I realize the necessity of making a blog post (by my rules, made up by me, applying to me).

Where we had a nice snack.

I guess I don’t have a whole lot else to say.  Maybe a word or two about the early Christmas present I received today from aforementioned husband Steven.

The new view if me at leisure.

Aren’t they awesome?  Steven purchased them for me yesterday at a drug store while I was running the Reindeer Run 5K and gave them to me today.  Isn’t he wonderful?

I always say there is no point at getting anything done on a Sunday. At least I am making some semblance of a blog post. I hope to see you all again on Monstrous Monday!

Cheered Up By Christmas Decorations

It is late in the day on Sunday.  Will I make a blog post or be a failure for the day?  I vote blog post!  With that end in mind, I took a few pictures of the Christmas decorations in our house.  Full disclosure:  my husband Steven is responsible for most of them.  But why worry about such details?  I’m sure my readers would like to see what we have.

A little busy, but I think it is fun.

Here is our mantle.  Some of the decorations are up year round, but I feel the whole is Christmas-y.  I just now realized I should have gotten a close-up of the delightful gnome we recently acquired from Kayla Marie Creations in Mohawk, NY.

Isn’t he cool?

I also wanted to include an update of our skeleton Bonita.  We dressed her for the season.

Why wouldn’t a skeleton celebrate Christmas?

I guess it’s a little blurry, but it will have to do.  I put the garland and fan on her, and Steven gave her the lovely headdress.  He got it off a prize he won yesterday at a basket raffle at Trinity Lutheran Church in Herkimer.

Another Steve creation.

This is our kitchen window.  You can see the reflection of our Halloweddingannivesaweenarary banner.  I tried to turn around and get a shot of that, but the light was against me.

I particularly like the pine cones.

This is our stove.  The pilsners with stones, marbles and pine cone were Steven’s own inspiration.

I do love Christmas decorations.  It makes me feel a little better on Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

Has Wrist to Forehead Sunday Become a Cliche?

A winter storm, or at least winter weather started hitting the Mohawk Valley this morning.  I went running well before the precipitation, although it was frightfully cold.  It turns out I don’t mind running in cold weather. If I had gotten on here earlier and made a Sunday Running Commentary post,  I would be all set right now.  Oh well, that ship sailed, as they say (I have many times observed that one can often get away with using a cliche, if one adds “as they say” or “the proverbial”).

Where was I?  Ah yes, indulging in cliche and trying to make a blog post. I think we can legitimately call this a Wrist to Forehead Sunday. I am feeling a bit swoony on the sofa and I don’t care who knows it.

Clearly this is not me, but I know just how she feels.

I really am sorry to be making yet another post about not being able to make a decent blog post.  I’m afraid it has become the rule rather than the  exception.  On the other hand, I am making my Sunday post on Sunday. That has to count for something, doesn’t it?

Oh dear, is “has to count for something” another cliche?  I would hang my head in shame, but I am pretty sure that IS a cliche.  I bet it is also a cliche to promise to try to do better tomorrow.  How embarrassing!  I’ll have to sprinkle “the proverbial” over this post out of a salt shaker!

But Happy Sunday, everyone.

No Regrets on Wrist to Forehead Sunday

Even skeletons have their moments of high drama.

After our skeleton Bonita slipped a little, I posed her so she could have a wrist to forehead moment.  Then I realized I must take a picture and use it for my Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.

As I mentioned in what should have been my Saturday post, we had a perfectly marvelous time last night.  I have a dreadful headache today.  Too much Chardonnay?  A continuation of my cold symptoms?  It matters not, I just hope it goes away soon.

Bonita in happier times.

I guess I don’t have a whole lot else to say.  Great time last night, headache today, here’s a skeleton.  Sounds like a typical blog post.

Some of the best friends anybody could have.

Here is a picture from last night at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer with our friends.  I took more pictures, but most of them came out pretty dark.  And, foolishly, I did not have anyone take a picture of me.  There is only one selfie, and I am not good at selfies, especially after a couple of glasses of Chardonnay.

Oh well, I guess I might as well let you see me looking ridiculous.

I strive to go through life with no regrets.  That last glass of wine may have been a mistake, but no matter.  It was a lovely time, followed by a not bad Sunday.  Bring on Monday!  After a good night’s sleep,  of course.
